Toile pronounced “twall” is a shortened version of the original Toile de Jouy. The phrase Toile de Jouy means cloth from Jouy-en-Josas, a town in the north central part of France. Toile crib sets can be found in many different patterns and colors and are used often in french country decorating. Toile is traditionally a patterned fabric, the pattern being a pastoral scene printed in one color on a white or off white background.

My how toile has changed, you can now find toile patterns depicting not only outdoor scenes but many other things as well. You will also find many different colors used instead of the traditional background colors, and the patterns are not limited to one color either. This makes choosing toile bedding for your babies nursery even more fun.

If you favor the traditional look of toile, you might like something like this one from HooHobbers that combines a traditional toile with gingham accents.
